Online Media

The first product from Online Media is an intelligent, digital Set-Top Box which, when connected to a network, offers immediate access to a wide range of services such as video-on-demand, home shopping, home banking, news services, educational programs and interactive networked games.

Experience, gained from Acorn, in total system design and the production of high-performance, low-cost products, is a key strength. No other company in the world has focused so clearly or so successfully on this development philosophy and Acorn has led the world in getting the most from cost-effective technology. Using this approach, Online Media is working closely with Advanced RISC Machines in the creation of their technology road-map. The early implementation of new designs and the subsequent optimisation and integration of devices for lowest cost are Online Media's objectives.

Online Media's software expertise (systems, interface and applications) provide an ideal vehicle for ensuring highly optimised systems integration. The company is committed to adopting the emerging standards that will apply to this industry and supports the open systems approach for platform independence. Online Media will deliver to service providers the interfaces and applications they need. Based in Cambridge, Online Media is working in partnership with a number of world- leading companies including: Acorn Education, Applied Risc Technologies, Anglia Television, ARM Ltd, Advanced Telecommunications Modules Ltd, BNR/Northern Telecom, Cambridge Cable, DEC, ITN, Microsoft, Olivetti, Oracle, and SJ Research.
